Tour Overview

Slip into the timeless cadence of the Nile aboard the Lady Carol, a graceful vessel that turns the passage between Luxor and Aswan into a journey of pure ease. Days drift by from a sunlit deck: feluccas skim past, palm groves lean over mud-brick villages, and children wave from the water’s edge as Upper Egypt unfolds like a slow-moving painting. Ashore, expert-led excursions bring you face to face with the wonders that define this river, the colossal hypostyle hall at Karnak, the extraordinarily preserved Temple of Horus at Edfu, the twin sanctuaries of Kom Ombo perched above the water, and the island temple of Philae rising from the reservoir at Aswan. Back on board, warm hospitality, thoughtfully appointed cabins, and long, lantern-lit evenings under an ink-black sky complete the experience. Cast off with Daily Pyramids Tours and let the Nile do the rest.

Itinerary

3 Nights from Aswan to Luxor

Day 1: Arrival in Aswan – Aswan City Tour

You are welcomed on arrival at Aswan Airport or your hotel by a Daily Pyramids representative, who accompanies you throughout the day. A private air-conditioned vehicle sets off along the palm-lined streets to the High Dam, the mid-twentieth-century feat of engineering that redirected the river’s course and rescued dozens of Nubian monuments from the rising waters.

Next comes the Unfinished Obelisk, still resting where its ancient masons left it in the granite quarry after a fracture halted the work. Standing beside its shaped shaft is a rare, tangible lesson in how the pharaohs’ colossal monuments were coaxed from the bedrock.

A motorised felucca then ferries you across the river to Philae Temple, the island sanctuary of Isis relocated block by block to Agilkia Island when Lake Nasser was formed. If time and inclination allow, an optional sail loops past Elephantine Island and the swirling waters of the First Cataract.

Lunch is arranged at a local restaurant, after which you board your Nile cruise vessel for check-in. Dinner is served on board, followed by your first night moored in Aswan.

Meals: Lunch – Dinner

Day 2: Kom Ombo & Sailing to Edfu

After breakfast on board, a private vehicle takes you roughly 45 km north of Aswan to Kom Ombo. Here the guided visit centres on the striking Temple of Kom Ombo, laid out as an exact double sanctuary honouring Sobek, the crocodile deity, on one side and Haroeris, a warrior form of Horus, on the other.

You’ll walk through its mirrored courts, hypostyle halls and ritual chambers before stepping into the small but fascinating Crocodile Museum, where mummified crocodiles found around the temple are beautifully displayed.

Lunch follows at a local restaurant, then you rejoin the Lady Carol as she casts off for Edfu. The afternoon slips past in slow, cinematic fashion, sugarcane fields, sandstone bluffs, riverside villages and children fishing from the banks.

An onboard briefing sets the scene for tomorrow’s visit, and the vessel moors overnight at Edfu.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 3: Edfu Temple & Arrival in Luxor

After breakfast, a horse-drawn carriage clatters you through the streets of Edfu town to the Temple of Horus, the most completely preserved of all Egypt’s ancient temples.

Inside, soaring pylons, cavernous halls and finely cut inscriptions unfold the mythic clash between Horus and Seth and detail the elaborate rituals of the Ptolemaic priesthood. Because so little has been lost, you can climb through nearly every architectural level, including the roof terraces with their long views over the palm belt.

Back on board, the cruise continues north towards Luxor while lunch is served during the sail.

On arrival, you visit Luxor Temple on the East Bank, a monument shaped across generations by rulers such as Amenhotep III and Ramesses II.

Its grand colonnades, open courts and sphinx-lined approach still echo the ceremonial heartbeat of ancient Thebes. The vessel moors overnight in Luxor.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 4: Luxor West Bank & Departure

After breakfast and disembarkation, you cross to the West Bank of Luxor, the ancient necropolis of Thebes. Your visit opens in the Valley of the Kings, where three royal tombs are entered to reveal richly painted walls and the sacred texts intended to escort each pharaoh safely into the next world.

The route continues to the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, a tiered architectural triumph rising from the cliffs and dedicated to one of the most formidable female rulers Egypt ever produced.

A final pause is made at the Colossi of Memnon, the pair of monumental seated statues that once flanked the entrance to a vast, long-vanished mortuary temple. After lunch, you are transferred to Luxor Airport or your hotel for your onward journey.

4 Nights from Luxor to Aswan

Day 1: Arrival in Luxor – East Bank Exploration

A Daily Pyramids representative meets you at Luxor Airport or the train station and transfers you by private air-conditioned vehicle to your Nile cruise vessel for check-in.

Once your luggage is stowed, a guided visit opens at the Karnak Temple Complex, the largest religious site ever built and the accumulated ambition of pharaohs over two thousand years.

From Karnak, the exploration continues to Luxor Temple, a New Kingdom masterpiece once linked to Karnak by the ceremonial Avenue of Sphinxes.

Lunch is arranged at a local restaurant during the day before you return to the cruise vessel for your first night moored in Luxor.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: West Bank of Luxor – Sailing Toward Edfu

After breakfast, you cross to the West Bank of Luxor for a guided walk through the Valley of the Kings, home to more than 60 royal tombs whose brilliantly painted walls preserve the ancient Egyptian vision of the afterlife.

The morning continues at the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, an architectural masterpiece carved in graceful terraces into the cliff face and consecrated to Egypt’s most powerful female pharaoh.

A short stop follows at the Colossi of Memnon, the pair of towering statues that stand watch over the remains of Amenhotep III’s mortuary complex.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you rejoin the Lady Carol as she begins her voyage south towards Edfu. Overnight is spent onboard as the river carries you gently upstream.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples

The vessel arrives at Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage clip-clops you into town for a guided visit to the Temple of Horus.

This exceptionally intact Ptolemaic sanctuary honours the falcon god Horus and remains one of the most complete temples anywhere in Egypt, with almost every wall, roof and inscription still in place.

Back on board, the cruise pushes on to Kom Ombo, where you explore the unusual double temple shared jointly by Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus.

Its perfectly symmetrical layout and dramatic setting right at the river’s edge make it one of the most memorable stops along the Nile. Lunch is served on board as sailing continues towards Aswan.

Overnight is spent onboard in Aswan.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Aswan Highlights and Nile Sailing

The morning begins at the High Aswan Dam, a mid-twentieth-century marvel of engineering that reshaped Egyptian agriculture and gave birth to the immense Lake Nasser behind it.

You continue to the Unfinished Obelisk, the vast granite monolith left mid-carving in its quarry, a rare open-air window into ancient stone-working techniques.

A motorboat then whisks you across to Philae Island for a guided visit to the Temple of Isis, a Ptolemaic jewel painstakingly relocated stone by stone after the construction of the Aswan Dam.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant, followed by a traditional felucca sail around Elephantine Island, a peaceful drift among granite outcrops that offers the finest perspective on Aswan’s river life.

You return to the cruise vessel for your final overnight on board.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Departure from Aswan

After a final breakfast on board, you check out from the vessel and are transferred by private air-conditioned vehicle to Aswan Airport or the train station in time for your onward journey.

FAQ

How Much Does a Cruise on the Nile Cost?

Nile cruise pricing shifts with itinerary length, the standard of the vessel and the extras included in the fare. As a broad guide, expect $600 to $900 per person for a 3-4 night sailing on a mid-range to luxury ship. Longer voyages or premium boats with a wider suite of amenities sit above that range.

What is the Best Month for a Nile River Cruise?

The sweet spot for cruising the Nile runs from October to April, when cooler, drier weather makes shore excursions genuinely enjoyable. It is best to steer clear of the peak summer stretch from May to September, when daytime temperatures on the river climb to uncomfortable extremes.

Is the River Nile Cruise Worth It?

Absolutely. A Nile cruise remains one of the most rewarding ways to see Egypt, pairing calm scenic sailing with expertly guided visits to the country’s landmark temples and tombs. You unpack once, travel in real comfort and wake each morning to a new stretch of history on the riverbank.

Can You Swim in the Nile River?

Swimming in the Nile itself is not advised, primarily because of water-quality concerns and unpredictable currents. Cruise operators do not permit guests to swim directly in the river, though onboard swimming pools are available on most vessels.

What is the Dress Code on Nile Cruises?

Daytime dress on a Nile cruise is comfortably casual, with lightweight, breathable fabrics best suited to the climate. Evenings lean slightly smarter casual for dinners and onboard events. When visiting temples, mosques or other sacred sites, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is respectful and expected.
