Itinerary

3 Nights from Aswan to Luxor

Day 1: Arrival in Aswan – Aswan City Tour

Your journey opens the moment you land at Aswan Airport or step out of your hotel, where a friendly representative is waiting to welcome you and stay by your side throughout the day. Settle into a private air-conditioned vehicle for a tour of Aswan’s defining sights, beginning at the High Dam — the mid-century feat of engineering that tamed the Nile’s annual floods and rescued a wealth of Nubian monuments from rising waters.

From there, you head to the Unfinished Obelisk, still resting in the ancient granite quarry where a hidden crack forced sculptors to abandon it thousands of years ago — a vivid, hands-on lesson in how pharaonic engineers worked stone.

A motorised felucca then ferries you across the Nile to Philae Temple, the enchanting island shrine of Isis, painstakingly moved block by block to safer Agilkia Island. An optional loop past Elephantine Island and the First Cataract shows off Aswan’s tumbled granite islets and rushing river channels.

A relaxed lunch follows at a well-chosen local restaurant before you board your Nile cruise for check-in. Dinner is served on board and you spend the night moored in Aswan.

Meals: Lunch – Dinner

Day 2: Kom Ombo & Sailing to Edfu

After breakfast on board, a private vehicle carries you roughly 45 km north from Aswan to Kom Ombo, home to one of Egypt’s most unusual sanctuaries. Here you tour the Temple of Kom Ombo, a strikingly symmetrical double temple built to honour both Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus in equal measure.

Your visit takes in the twin sanctuaries, the shaded hypostyle halls and the smaller ritual chambers, followed by the neighbouring Crocodile Museum, where mummified crocodiles unearthed nearby are displayed with real theatre.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you rejoin the ship as it slips downstream toward Edfu. The afternoon unfolds slowly, with sugarcane fields, palm-fringed villages and pale sandstone escarpments passing by on either bank.

An onboard briefing readies you for tomorrow’s highlight and the vessel moors overnight in Edfu.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 3: Edfu Temple & Arrival in Luxor

After breakfast, a horse-drawn carriage rattles you through the streets of Edfu to the Temple of Horus, the most completely preserved of all ancient Egyptian temples.

Beyond its towering pylons lie vast columned halls and finely chiselled inscriptions that recount the mythic duel between Horus and Seth alongside the temple rituals of the Ptolemaic era. Because so much of the structure survives, you can wander from the sanctuary right up to the roof terraces along its original stairways.

Back aboard, the cruise continues its steady progress north toward Luxor, with lunch served as the river rolls by.

On arrival, you head to Luxor Temple on the East Bank, a monument shaped over successive reigns including those of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II.

Its colossal colonnades, sunlit courtyards and the remains of the sphinx-lined avenue conjure the ceremonial heart of ancient Thebes. The ship stays moored in Luxor for the night.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 4: Luxor West Bank & Departure

After breakfast and disembarkation, you cross the river to the West Bank of Luxor, the great necropolis of ancient Thebes. The day opens in the Valley of the Kings, where three royal tombs open their doors to reveal painted walls, protective spells and the sacred texts that once guided pharaohs into the afterlife.

Next comes the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, a bold, tiered creation carved into the desert cliffs and honouring one of Egypt’s most extraordinary female rulers.

Your final stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two weathered stone giants that once flanked the entrance of a now-vanished mortuary temple. After lunch, you are driven to Luxor Airport or your hotel for onward travel.

4 Nights from Luxor to Aswan

Day 1: Arrival in Luxor – East Bank Exploration

You are welcomed at Luxor Airport or the train station by a Daily Pyramids representative and driven in a private air-conditioned vehicle straight to your Nile cruise ship.

Once you are checked in, your Egyptian adventure begins in earnest at the Karnak Temple Complex — the largest religious site ever built, added to over more than two millennia by a long line of pharaohs.

You then move on to Luxor Temple, a New Kingdom gem that was historically joined to Karnak by the Avenue of Sphinxes.

Lunch is enjoyed at a local restaurant during the day, before you return to your vessel for a peaceful first night moored in Luxor.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: West Bank of Luxor – Sailing Toward Edfu

After breakfast, you cross the river to the West Bank of Luxor for a guided journey through the Valley of the Kings, where more than 60 royal tombs preserve some of the most vivid depictions of the ancient Egyptian afterlife ever painted.

The tour continues at the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, an architectural feat set dramatically against the cliffs and dedicated to Egypt’s most influential female pharaoh.

You make a brief stop at the Colossi of Memnon, twin monumental figures marking the entrance to the vanished mortuary temple of Amenhotep III.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you return to the ship for the start of the southbound sailing toward Edfu. The night is spent onboard as the vessel glides along the Nile.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples

The ship arrives at Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage collects you for a leisurely ride into town and a guided visit to the Temple of Horus.

This wonderfully preserved Ptolemaic sanctuary honouring the falcon god Horus is among the most complete ancient temples anywhere in Egypt, with almost every wall, column and inscription still in place.

Back on board, the vessel resumes its journey toward Kom Ombo, where you explore a rare double temple dedicated jointly to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus.

Its perfectly mirrored plan and dramatic riverside setting make it one of the most memorable temples on the Nile. Lunch is served on board as sailing continues toward Aswan.

You spend the night onboard in Aswan.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Aswan Highlights and Nile Sailing

The morning opens at the High Aswan Dam, a landmark of modern engineering that reshaped Egyptian agriculture and water management and created the vast expanse of Lake Nasser.

You then head to the Unfinished Obelisk, an enormous granite monolith left half-carved in its quarry — a fascinating window into how ancient masons shaped stone with copper tools and dolerite pounders.

A motorboat carries you across to Philae Island for a guided tour of the Temple of Isis, a Ptolemaic sanctuary rescued and rebuilt after the construction of the Aswan Dam.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant, followed by a traditional felucca sail around Elephantine Island, offering a slow, wind-powered look at Aswan’s pink granite outcrops and easygoing river life.

Return to the cruise for your final night onboard.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Departure from Aswan

Enjoy a final breakfast on board before checking out of the cruise. A private air-conditioned vehicle then transfers you to Aswan Airport or the train station in good time for your onward journey.

FAQ

How Much Does a Cruise on the Nile Cost?

What you pay for a Nile cruise depends on how long you sail, the calibre of the ship and the range of services included. As a general guide, expect prices from $600 to $900 per person for a 3-4 night voyage on a mid-range to luxury vessel, while premium ships with extra amenities and longer itineraries sit higher up the scale.

What is the Best Month for a Nile River Cruise?

The most rewarding time to sail the Nile is between October and April, when the days are cooler and far more comfortable for exploring temples and tombs. It is wise to steer clear of the peak summer stretch from May to September, when temperatures in Upper Egypt can climb to punishing highs.

Is the River Nile Cruise Worth It?

Absolutely. A Nile cruise is one of the most relaxing and rewarding ways to experience Egypt, pairing tranquil river views with expertly guided visits to legendary temples and tombs. You get comfort, convenience and a deeply immersive cultural journey all rolled into one.

Can You Swim in the Nile River?

Swimming in the Nile itself is not advised because of water quality, strong currents and other safety concerns. Almost all cruise operators, including ours, do not permit passengers to swim in the river.

What is the Dress Code on Nile Cruises?

Daytime dress on a Nile cruise is easy-going and comfortable, with light, breathable fabrics ideal for warm weather. Smart-casual clothing is a nice touch for evening dinners and onboard events, and modest attire — covering shoulders and knees — is expected when visiting temples and other religious or historical sites.
