Tour Overview

Few voyages align so perfectly with a moment in the sky. Over three unhurried nights aboard a comfortable river ship, you drift downstream from Aswan to Luxor, calling at Kom Ombo and Edfu before mooring within the path of totality for the 2027 total solar eclipse. Palm groves, sandstone cliffs and mudbrick villages slip past the sundeck; evenings bring generous meals, quiet stars and a crew that anticipates every request. Between temple visits, the pace is slow on purpose, so that when the sun darkens above the temples of Thebes you are rested, ready, and exactly where you want to be. Secure your cabin now with Daily Pyramids Tours for a Nile journey shaped around a truly rare sky.

Why You'll Love This Trip

Step aboard a graceful floating hotel and let Egypt reveal itself at river pace. In four richly layered days you will stand before Philae’s island sanctuary, marvel at the sheer scale of the Aswan High Dam, and puzzle over the twin sanctuaries of Kom Ombo before rolling into Edfu by carriage. Luxor answers with the Valley of the Kings, the tiered majesty of Hatshepsut, and the vast columned halls of Karnak, all crowned by a solar eclipse witnessed from the heart of ancient Thebes. Between excursions, the ship rewards you with fine dining, sundeck breezes and the gentle rhythm of the Nile — a rare balance of discovery and calm you will remember for years.

  • Stand on Philae Island and cross the mighty Aswan High Dam
  • Uncover the twin temple of Kom Ombo and Horus's stronghold at Edfu
  • Cross to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings and its royal tombs
  • Watch the 2027 total solar eclipse from ancient Luxor
  • Wander the colossal halls of Karnak and floodlit Luxor Temple
  • Unwind on a smart Nile cruiser with fine dining and river views

Itinerary

Day 1 – Aswan (30-Jul-2027)

Your voyage begins the moment you land in Aswan. Our representative will meet you at the arrivals hall and whisk you across town to your Nile cruise, where embarkation is completed in time for lunch on board. Once your cabin is ready and your bags stowed, you set out with your Egyptologist for Philae Temple, the elegant riverside sanctuary of the goddess Isis, rebuilt stone by stone on Agilkia Island and now ringed by shimmering water.

From here you drive to the Aswan High Dam, an engineering feat of the twentieth century that tamed the Nile and gave birth to Lake Nasser, whose horizon stretches endlessly southward. Back on board as the light softens, dinner is served in the main restaurant and you can drift up to the sundeck to watch the last embers of sunset dissolve into the river.

Should you wish to linger longer ashore, an optional felucca sail or a stroll through a traditional Nubian village can be arranged.
Overnight in Aswan.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2 – Kom Ombo & Edfu (31-Jul-2027)

Wake to a leisurely breakfast as the ship slips her moorings and heads downstream. By late morning the sandstone terraces of Kom Ombo rise into view, home to Egypt’s only true double temple, dedicated jointly to Sobek the crocodile deity and Horus the falcon-headed god. Your guide will walk you through its symmetrical halls and reveal its extraordinary carvings of surgical instruments, hinting at the temple’s role in ancient healing.

A short walk brings you to the Crocodile Museum, where mummified reptiles and votive offerings await, before you rejoin the ship for lunch. As you sail on, the riverbanks unfold in a slow-moving pageant of sugarcane fields, waving children and fishermen tending their nets.

Later, the ship ties up at Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage clatters through the streets to the Temple of Horus, one of Egypt’s most complete pharaonic monuments, with towering pylons and finely cut reliefs preserved almost intact. Back on board there is afternoon tea, dinner and evening entertainment as the ship pushes on toward Esna.
Overnight on board.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 – Luxor (West Bank) (1-Aug-2027)

Breakfast is served as the ship completes its final stretch into Luxor. You disembark to cross to the West Bank, ancient Egypt’s great necropolis. In the arid folds of the Theban hills lies the Valley of the Kings, where painted burial chambers, including that of Tutankhamun, still glow with ochre and lapis. From there you drive to the mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, whose three great terraces climb dramatically against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.

A short stop follows at the Colossi of Memnon, the pair of weathered giants that have kept silent watch over the plain for nearly 3,400 years. Then it is back on board for lunch and a gentle afternoon on deck as the ship shifts across to the East Bank.

Overnight in Luxor.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Luxor (East Bank) & Disembarkation (2-Aug-2027)

Morning takes you into the heart of the East Bank, beginning at the sprawling Karnak Temple Complex. Successive pharaohs stamped their ambitions on this site across more than two millennia, leaving forests of columns, soaring obelisks and sacred lakes that make Karnak feel less like a monument and more like a stone city.

You then follow the recently restored Avenue of Sphinxes to Luxor Temple, where the giant seated figures of Ramses II preside over the entrance and the great colonnaded court takes on a golden warmth as the sun climbs higher. It is a stretch of history that feels wonderfully alive under your feet.

Later that day comes the moment this whole voyage has been built around: the solar eclipse, observed from a specially chosen vantage point in Luxor. As the moon slides across the sun and daylight briefly gives way to an unearthly twilight, you’ll understand why the ancients read such heavens as messages from the gods.

Following the tour and the eclipse itself, you return to the ship for lunch, then disembark for the onward transfer to your hotel or Luxor Airport, taking with you the memory of a Nile journey lit by a once-in-a-generation sky.

  • Hotel staff (porters, housekeeping): Small tips of $1–$2

Tipping is generally not included in your package price. We recommend carrying small USD or EGP bills for tipping convenience.

FAQ

How Much Does a Cruise on the Nile Cost?

Fares on the Nile flex according to how long you sail, how highly the ship is rated and which extras are folded into your package. As a broad benchmark, expect roughly $600 to $900 per person for a 3-4 night itinerary aboard a mid-range or upper-tier vessel, with the most polished five-star cruisers and longer voyages sitting comfortably above that band.

What is the Best Month for a Nile River Cruise?

The kindest window for a Nile cruise runs from October to April, when daytime temperatures are pleasant for temple visits and evenings on deck are cool and comfortable. The stretch from May to September is best avoided by heat-sensitive travellers, as Upper Egypt sits under a fierce sun for most of the day.

Is the River Nile Cruise Worth It?

Absolutely. A Nile cruise pairs slow-paced river scenery with expertly guided visits to temples and tombs you simply cannot reach as easily by road, and it does so from the comfort of your floating hotel. It is one of the most rewarding and civilised ways to travel through Egypt.

Can You Swim in the Nile River?

Swimming directly in the Nile is not advised. Currents can be surprisingly strong in places, and water quality varies enough that most cruise operators do not allow guests to swim from the river itself. Onboard pools are the safer, more pleasant alternative.

What is the Dress Code on Nile Cruises?

By day, keep things easy and cool: loose, breathable fabrics work best in the Egyptian sun. Evenings on board lean smart-casual, particularly at dinner or during onboard entertainment. When visiting temples, mosques or churches, please dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered as a mark of respect.
