Tour Overview

Slip your shoes off and settle in — the Commodore Nile Cruise turns the ribbon of river between Luxor and Aswan into a slow, sunlit holiday. From the top deck you’ll watch the shoreline unspool in a haze of date palms, mud-brick villages and lateen-sailed feluccas, while inside, cool cabins and warm, attentive service make the boat feel like a floating boutique hotel. Each morning your guide leads you off the gangway into the great set-pieces of Upper Egypt — the hall of columns at Karnak, the painted tombs of the Valley of the Kings, the Ptolemaic craftsmanship of Edfu and Kom Ombo, and the island sanctuary of Philae. By night, the deck is yours: candlelit dinners, a chilled drink and a sky spilling with stars. Book your Commodore Nile Cruise journey with Daily Pyramids Tours and let the river do the rest.

Itinerary

3 Nights from Aswan to Luxor

Day 1: Arrival in Aswan – Aswan City Tour

You are welcomed at Aswan Airport (or your hotel) by our representative, who stays with you throughout the day’s discoveries. A private, air-conditioned car whisks you first to the High Dam — a colossal feat of twentieth-century engineering that tamed the annual flood, powered a nation and rescued a string of Nubian monuments from the rising waters.

From there it is a short drive to the Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in the granite quarry where a fault line halted its journey to the temples. Standing beside it, you get a rare, unfiltered glimpse of how ancient stonemasons shaped these monolithic giants.

A motorised felucca then ferries you across the water to Philae Temple, the graceful island shrine of Isis that was painstakingly rescued stone by stone and rebuilt on Agilkia Island. If you wish, add a gentle sail around Elephantine Island and the First Cataract to see Aswan’s tumbling granite islets from the river.

Lunch is enjoyed at a local restaurant before you board your Nile cruise vessel for check-in. Dinner is served on board and you spend the night moored in Aswan.

Meals: Lunch – Dinner

Day 2: Kom Ombo & Sailing to Edfu

After breakfast on board, a private vehicle takes you roughly 45 km north to Kom Ombo. Set on a bluff above the river, this is one of Egypt’s most curious monuments — a perfectly symmetrical double temple with two mirrored axes honouring Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus.

You’ll walk through both sanctuaries, the twin hypostyle halls and the ritual chambers before stepping into the Crocodile Museum, where mummified crocodiles unearthed near the temple are laid out with reverence.

Lunch is taken at a local restaurant, then you rejoin the cruise as it eases north toward Edfu. Spend the afternoon on deck watching sugarcane fields, riverbank hamlets and sandstone cliffs unfold — the quintessential Upper Egypt panorama.

An onboard briefing sets the scene for tomorrow’s visit and the vessel moors overnight at Edfu.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 3: Edfu Temple & Arrival in Luxor

Once breakfast is over, a horse-drawn carriage clatters you through Edfu town to the Temple of Horus — the most completely preserved ancient temple anywhere in Egypt.

Inside its soaring pylons and shadowed halls, walls are alive with inscriptions retelling the mythic duel of Horus and Seth and cataloguing Ptolemaic ritual. So little has been lost that you can wander through nearly every original level, right up to the roof terraces.

Back on board, the cruise sets a course north for Luxor and lunch is served as you sail.

On arrival, you visit Luxor Temple on the East Bank, a monument reshaped over centuries by rulers including Amenhotep III and Ramesses II.

Its stately colonnades, wide-open courts and sphinx-lined processional way capture the ceremonial pulse of ancient Thebes. You spend the night moored in Luxor.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 4: Luxor West Bank & Departure

After breakfast and disembarkation, you cross the river to the West Bank, the ancient necropolis of Thebes. Your morning begins in the Valley of the Kings, where you step inside three royal tombs to see the vivid wall paintings and funerary texts that guided pharaohs into eternity.

Next comes the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, a tiered marvel sculpted straight into the cliffs and dedicated to one of Egypt’s most formidable female rulers.

A final pause is made at the Colossi of Memnon, two seated giants that once flanked the entrance to a lost mortuary complex. Following lunch, you are transferred to Luxor Airport or your hotel for departure.

Meals: Breakfast

4 Nights from Luxor to Aswan

Day 1: Arrival in Luxor – East Bank Exploration

You are met at Luxor Airport or the railway station by our representative and driven in a private, air-conditioned car to your Nile cruise vessel for check-in.

Your first excursion is a guided tour of the Karnak Temple Complex, the largest sacred precinct ever built, layered by two thousand years of pharaonic ambition.

From there you continue to Luxor Temple, a New Kingdom jewel once linked ceremonially to Karnak by the great Avenue of Sphinxes.

Lunch is enjoyed at a local restaurant during the day before you return to the cruise ship for an overnight stay in Luxor.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: West Bank of Luxor – Sailing Toward Edfu

After breakfast, you cross to the West Bank of Luxor for a guided walk through the Valley of the Kings, where more than 60 royal tombs preserve vividly painted scenes of the ancient Egyptian journey through the afterlife.

You then continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, an architectural marvel cut into the cliff face and dedicated to Egypt’s most powerful female pharaoh.

A brief stop is made at the Colossi of Memnon, the pair of monumental statues that mark the remains of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple.

Lunch follows at a local restaurant before you return to the cruise vessel as it begins sailing south toward Edfu. You spend the night on board while the boat drifts along the Nile.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples

The cruise reaches Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage takes you through town for a guided visit to the Temple of Horus.

This remarkably preserved Ptolemaic sanctuary, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, stands as one of the most complete ancient temples anywhere in Egypt.

Back on board, the vessel continues sailing toward Kom Ombo, where you explore the unusual double temple honouring both Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, a form of Horus.

Its perfectly symmetrical layout and riverside setting make it one of the most distinctive monuments along the Nile. Lunch is served on board as you sail, and the boat presses on toward Aswan.

Overnight is spent on board in Aswan.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Aswan Highlights and Nile Sailing

The day opens with a visit to the High Aswan Dam, a landmark of modern engineering that transformed Egypt’s agriculture and water management by giving birth to Lake Nasser.

You then move on to the Unfinished Obelisk, a colossal granite monolith abandoned in its quarry and one of the finest windows into ancient stone-carving technique.

A short motorboat ride carries you across to Philae Island for a guided tour of the Temple of Isis, a Ptolemaic sanctuary rescued and rebuilt after the construction of the Aswan Dam.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant, followed by a traditional felucca sail around Elephantine Island — a slow, sail-driven glide that offers the quietest view of Aswan’s granite landscape and riverside life.

You return to the cruise vessel for your final overnight on board.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Departure from Aswan

After a final breakfast on board, you check out from the cruise vessel. A private, air-conditioned car then transfers you to Aswan Airport or the train station for your onward journey.

FAQ

How Much Does a Cruise on the Nile Cost?

What you pay for a Nile cruise depends on how long you sail, the standard of the ship and what’s bundled into the fare. As a rule of thumb, expect prices to sit between $600 to $900 per person for a 3-4 night sailing on a mid-range to luxury vessel. Longer itineraries and higher-end ships with premium amenities naturally cost more.

What is the Best Month for a Nile River Cruise?

The prime window for a Nile cruise runs from October to April, when daytime temperatures are pleasantly cool and sightseeing feels effortless. It is worth avoiding the peak summer months (May to September), when the heat in Upper Egypt can become genuinely fierce.

Is the River Nile Cruise Worth It?

Absolutely. A Nile cruise is one of the most rewarding ways to experience Egypt — you unpack once, glide between monuments in comfort and let the country’s greatest sights come to you. Expect a satisfying blend of guided exploration, on-deck relaxation and rich cultural encounters.

Can You Swim in the Nile River?

Swimming in the Nile is not advised. Water quality, wildlife and the strength of the current all make it a risky choice, and cruise operators do not permit passengers to enter the river directly.

What is the Dress Code on Nile Cruises?

Daytime dress on a Nile cruise is relaxed — think light, breathable layers that keep you cool on shore excursions. Evenings tend toward smart casual, especially at dinner or onboard events. When visiting temples, mosques or churches, modest clothing that covers the shoulders and knees is always the respectful choice.
