Stand beneath a darkening Egyptian sky as the moon slides across the sun on this eight-day voyage from Cairo to the storied banks of the Nile. Your adventure opens on the Giza Plateau, where the pyramids and the watchful Sphinx set the tone for what lies ahead. A short flight south delivers you to a graceful cruise ship gliding between Aswan and Luxor, calling at Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. The centrepiece is the 2027 total solar eclipse, viewed from a prime spot in Upper Egypt as pharaonic stonework falls briefly into twilight. Between the wonders, expect unhurried dining on deck, sunset views over palm-lined shores and thoughtful guiding at every step. Book your seat on this once-in-a-lifetime journey with Daily Pyramids Tours.
Over eight richly layered days, this itinerary threads together the greatest hits of Egypt with a celestial event unlike any other. You will trace the Giza Pyramids and marvel at the treasures of the Grand Egyptian Museum before flying south for a leisurely Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor. Along the way, temples rise from the riverbank at Philae, Kom Ombo and Edfu, while the West Bank of Luxor reveals painted royal tombs and Hatshepsut’s cliffside sanctuary. The trip’s crown jewel is watching the 2027 solar eclipse plunge Luxor into brief midday darkness above the columns of Karnak. Expect a rare blend of ancient wonder, gentle river days and a moment of pure astronomical magic.
Marhaba and welcome to Egypt. Your journey begins the moment you land, with a private meet-and-greet timed exactly to your arrival at Cairo Airport. Look for our representative in the arrivals hall, holding a placard printed with your name so there is no confusion.
From there, you will be whisked away in a private, air-conditioned vehicle for a smooth transfer to your Cairo hotel, where check-in is arranged and the rest of the evening is yours.
Meals: No meals included
Overnight stay in Cairo.
Following breakfast at the hotel, your private Egyptologist meets you in the lobby for a full day devoted to Giza’s ancient skyline.
First up, the Giza Pyramids themselves: the towering Great Pyramid of Khufu, the near-equal Pyramid of Khafre and the smaller yet elegant Pyramid of Menkaure. Nearby stands the Great Sphinx, guardian of the plateau, with its lion’s body and pharaoh’s face fixed on the eastern horizon. You’ll also step into the Valley Temple, once the setting for royal purification and mummification rites, and take in unforgettable panoramic views across the plateau.
A relaxed lunch is served at a well-regarded local restaurant.
In the afternoon, continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), a vast, state-of-the-art institution that gathers Egypt’s greatest antiquities under one roof. Room by room, you’ll encounter monumental statues, gleaming jewellery, ceremonial objects and personal effects drawn from every era of pharaonic history.
Highlights span the Old, Middle and New Kingdoms, with commanding statues of famous rulers, exquisite gold work and everyday items that bring ancient life vividly to the surface. The scale of the galleries and the clarity of the displays make this one of the most rewarding museum visits anywhere in the world.
Once the day is done, you’ll be driven comfortably back to your hotel.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, your driver collects you in a private air-conditioned vehicle and delivers you to Cairo Airport for the short domestic flight to Aswan.
Touching down in the south, you’ll be met by our local representative and driven to your Nile cruise for embarkation in time for lunch. Once you have settled into your tastefully furnished cabin, you’ll head back out with your Egyptologist to visit the beautiful Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and set on its own island framed by the shimmering waters of the Nile.
From there, continue to the mighty Aswan High Dam, an engineering feat that transformed the region and opens out to broad views of Lake Nasser. You’ll return to the ship in the early evening for dinner in the main dining room, followed by an unhurried moment on the sun deck as the river turns copper under the setting sun.
For guests keen to see more, optional add-ons include a felucca sail on the river or a visit to a traditional Nubian village.
Overnight in Aswan.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Take breakfast at a gentle pace as the ship slips its moorings and heads north along the Nile. By late morning you’ll arrive at Kom Ombo, where the unusual double temple honours two gods side by side: Sobek, the crocodile deity, and Horus, the falcon-headed sky god. Your guide brings the site to life with stories of its role in ancient healing and its unusual symmetrical layout.
A short walk away, the small Crocodile Museum displays mummified specimens and delicate artefacts before you return on board. As the ship pushes on, a generous lunch is served while the classic Nile panorama drifts past your window: sugar-cane fields, waving children on the banks and fishermen throwing nets from wooden skiffs.
By afternoon you’ll reach Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage carries you through the town to the Temple of Horus, arguably the best-preserved temple in all of Egypt, with soaring pylons and finely carved wall reliefs. Back on board, enjoy afternoon tea, dinner and an evening of onboard entertainment as the vessel sails on towards Esna.
Overnight on board.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, your cruise moors in Luxor and you set out to explore the West Bank, a landscape studded with some of ancient Egypt’s most storied monuments. First stop is the Valley of the Kings, where the elaborately painted tombs of pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, lie hidden inside the desert cliffs. Next, marvel at the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, a colonnaded masterpiece that climbs the mountainside in graceful terraces.
Your visit concludes at the Colossi of Memnon, the pair of towering seated statues that have watched over the plain for close to 3,400 years. From there, you’ll return to the ship for lunch and enjoy the changing views as you sail towards the East Bank.
Overnight in Luxor.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning, cross to Luxor’s East Bank for a tour of the astonishing Karnak Temple Complex, a sprawling open-air museum where forests of columns, needle-like obelisks and quiet sacred lakes speak of more than 2,000 years of continuous royal construction.
From there, stroll along the newly re-opened Avenue of Sphinxes to Luxor Temple, where colossal statues of Ramses II flank the entrance and the pillared courtyards glow amber under the late-day light. The atmosphere is genuinely spellbinding, with layer upon layer of history revealed as you walk.
Later in the day comes the moment you have travelled all this way for: the once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse, viewed from a prime location in Luxor. As the sun disappears behind the moon and the temples fall into a strange, cool dusk, you’ll share an experience that even the pharaohs would have called divine.
After the eclipse and your morning of exploration, return to the ship for lunch, then transfer to Luxor Airport for your flight back to Cairo. On arrival, you’ll be driven to your hotel with the evening free to relax.

Egypt is at its most enjoyable during the cooler winter stretch, roughly November through February, when daytime temperatures are pleasant and the pyramids, temples and open-air sites can be explored in comfort. It is wise to avoid the peak of summer between June and August, when the mercury frequently climbs above 40°C (104°F) across much of the country and outdoor sightseeing becomes tiring.
Before boarding your flight to Egypt, make sure the following essentials are in order:
Passport: Must remain valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry.
Visa: Requirements depend on your nationality; some travellers can obtain a visa on arrival, while others should apply for an e-visa in advance.
Travel Insurance: Strongly recommended to cover medical care and any unforeseen disruptions during your trip.
Vaccinations: None are formally required for entry, but a quick chat with your doctor about routine and recommended jabs is a sensible step.
Egypt is generally a safe destination for holidaymakers, with visible security around the major archaeological sites and in the main tourist hubs. As with any overseas trip, it is a good idea to review your government’s latest travel advice before departure and to keep an eye on local news for any updates during your stay.
Decide Your Travel Dates and Budget
Fix a rough window and a working budget first — this shapes every subsequent decision, from flight class to hotel category and the length of your Nile cruise.
Choose Your Itinerary and Destinations
Egypt spoils travellers with options: Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, Aswan, a Nile Cruise, Alexandria and the Red Sea resorts among them. Pick the places that matter most and decide how many nights each deserves.
Find a Reliable Tour Operator or Travel Agency
Book directly with a reputable local specialist in Egypt, use an international agency or go through a trusted online platform. Whichever you choose, sift through recent reviews and independent ratings first.
Select a Tour Package or Customize Your Trip
Ready-made packages typically bundle flights, hotels, transfers and guided touring for convenience. If your interests are specific, ask about tailoring the route, pace and inclusions to suit you.
Make a Reservation
Once you have chosen your programme, get in touch with the operator to confirm availability. You’ll share traveller details and pay either a deposit or the full amount, depending on their booking policy.
Prepare Your Travel Documents
Check your passport’s validity, arrange an Egyptian visa if required and keep printed and digital copies of your itinerary, hotel vouchers and tour confirmations to hand.
Pack and Get Ready
Pack for the season and the activities on your itinerary. Comfortable walking shoes, high-factor sunscreen, a hat and a universal travel adapter are absolute essentials.
Enjoy Your Trip!
Once you land, follow your day-by-day plan, stay in touch with your guide or agency whenever needed, and give yourself over to Egypt’s remarkable history and hospitality.
Tipping — known locally as “baksheesh” — is woven into everyday Egyptian life and is rarely built into the tour price. Guides, drivers and hotel staff all appreciate a small thank-you for good service, and a helpful benchmark is around 10-15% of the bill or the value of the service you have received.
