Tipping (“baksheesh”) is a customary way to show appreciation for good service in Egypt. Though not mandatory, it is widely appreciated:

  • Tour guide: $15–$20 per day per group
  • Driver: $5–$10 per day per group
  • Nile Cruise crew: $5–$10 per person per night (shared among staff)
  • Hotel staff (porters, housekeeping): Small tips of $1–$2

Tipping is generally not included in your package price. We recommend carrying small USD or EGP bills for tipping convenience.

FAQ

What is the Best Time to Travel to Egypt?

Egypt is at its most inviting during the cooler winter stretch from November to February, when daytime temperatures are pleasantly mild and long days at the pyramids, temples, and desert sites feel effortless. High summer, roughly June to August, is best avoided if you can help it, as the mercury regularly climbs above 40°C (104°F) across much of the country and outdoor sightseeing becomes genuinely demanding.

What is needed to enter Egypt?

Before you fly, make sure your travel wallet is in order. Most visitors will need:

  • Passport: Valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

  • Visa: Depending on your nationality, you may need to arrange one in advance or pick it up on arrival, and several passports qualify for the convenient e-visa.

  • Travel Insurance: Strongly recommended to cover medical care and any unexpected disruptions to your trip.

  • Vaccinations: None are formally required for entry, but a quick chat with your doctor about routine boosters is always a sensible step before travel.

Is it Safe to Travel to Egypt Right Now?

Egypt is broadly considered safe for holidaymakers, with a well-established tourism industry and a strong security presence around headline sites and busy cities. As with any trip, it is worth glancing at your government’s latest travel guidance in the run-up to departure and keeping an ear on local news while you are on the ground.

How do I book a trip?

  • Set Your Dates and Your Budget
Pinpoint when you want to travel and roughly what you are prepared to spend. Everything else, from flights to hotels to guided touring, flows naturally from these two decisions.

  • Sketch Out an Itinerary
Egypt spoils you for choice: Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, Aswan, the Nile Cruise, Alexandria, and the Red Sea resorts all beckon. Decide which mix of these appeals most and how long you will linger in each.

  • Pick a Trustworthy Tour Operator
You might book with an established Egyptian operator, an international agency, or a specialist online platform. Whichever route you take, read recent reviews and traveller ratings before you hand over any details.

  • Choose a Package or Build Your Own
Ready-made packages usually bundle flights, hotels, transfers, and guided tours into one tidy price. If you prefer something more personal, most operators are happy to shape a bespoke itinerary around your tastes and budget.

  • Confirm the Booking
With your itinerary settled, get back to the operator to check live availability. You will share your traveller details and pay either a deposit or the full amount, depending on the booking terms.

  • Sort Your Travel Documents
Double-check your passport validity and apply for an Egyptian visa if your nationality requires one. Print, or at least save offline, your itinerary, hotel vouchers, and tour confirmations.

  • Pack Smart
Match your bag to the season and to what you have planned. Comfortable walking shoes, high-factor sunscreen, and a universal travel adapter always earn their space.

  • Time to Enjoy Egypt
Once you land, follow the itinerary at your own pace, keep your guide or agency contact handy, and lose yourself in the country’s extraordinary history and culture.

Is Tipping Included in the Tour Price?

Tipping, known locally as “baksheesh,” is woven into daily life in Egypt and generally sits outside the tour price. Guides, drivers, and hotel staff all appreciate a small thank you for good service, and a comfortable rule of thumb is to leave around 10-15% of the bill or the value of the service received.
