Tour Overview

Board the Renaissance and let the current do the work as it carries you gently between Luxor and Aswan. Days unfold at the river’s pace: sunrise over palm-fringed banks, mid-morning shore calls at Karnak, Luxor Temple and the twin sanctuaries of Kom Ombo and Edfu, and afternoons framed by the island grace of Philae. Between the temples, sink into a sunlounger with a cold drink, wave to farmers on the shore, and share long, unhurried meals under a sky that turns from cobalt to gold. Cabins are comfortable, service is warm, and the rhythm is entirely Egyptian. Book your Renaissance voyage with Daily Pyramids Tours.

Itinerary

3 Nights from Aswan to Luxor

Day 1: Arrival in Aswan – Aswan City Tour

Your guide meets you at Aswan Airport or your hotel and stays with you throughout the day. Settle into a private, air-conditioned vehicle and set off to explore the city, beginning at the High Dam — the modern feat of engineering that tamed the Nile’s floods and preserved a great sweep of Nubian heritage from rising waters.

Next comes the Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in the granite quarry where it was abandoned after a crack ruined its stone. Walking around its half-carved sides is a rare window into how the ancients cut, shaped and moved such colossal monuments.

A short crossing by motorised felucca then delivers you to Philae Temple, the graceful island shrine of the goddess Isis, painstakingly rebuilt block by block on Agilkia Island. If time allows, add an optional sail around Elephantine Island and the First Cataract, where black granite boulders split the river into shimmering rapids.

Lunch is taken at a local restaurant, after which you board the Renaissance and check in to your cabin. Dinner is served on board, and the ship stays moored in Aswan for the night.

Meals: Lunch – Dinner

Day 2: Kom Ombo & Sailing to Edfu

After breakfast on board, travel roughly 45 km north by private vehicle to Kom Ombo. This unusual riverside temple is built as a mirror-image sanctuary shared by two gods — Sobek, the crocodile deity of the Nile’s fertile waters, and Haroeris, the elder form of Horus, lord of the sky.

Your visit takes in both twin shrines, the hypostyle hall with its lotus-crowned columns, and the small ritual chambers behind the sanctuary. You also step into the adjacent Crocodile Museum, where mummified sacred crocodiles unearthed nearby are beautifully displayed.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant, then it is back on board for a slow afternoon sail toward Edfu. Sugarcane fields, whitewashed villages and honey-coloured sandstone cliffs slide past the rail — quintessential Upper Egypt.

An onboard briefing sets up the following morning, and the boat moors overnight at Edfu.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 3: Edfu Temple & Arrival in Luxor

After breakfast, climb into a horse-drawn carriage for the short clip through Edfu town to the Temple of Horus — the most completely surviving temple in all of Egypt.

Inside, twin pylons, forested halls of columns and finely cut reliefs recount the mythic contest between Horus and Seth alongside the daily rituals of the Ptolemaic priesthood. Because the sandstone has weathered so gently here, you can still walk almost every level of the complex, including sections of the roof terrace.

Back on board, the cruise pushes on northward toward Luxor, with lunch served as you sail.

Once docked, you head straight to Luxor Temple on the East Bank, a monument sculpted across generations by rulers such as Amenhotep III and Ramesses II.

Grand colonnades, open courts and the ceremonial avenue lined with sphinxes bring alive the sacred heart of ancient Thebes. The ship stays overnight in Luxor.

Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 4: Luxor West Bank & Departure

After breakfast and check-out, cross the Nile to the West Bank — the great necropolis of ancient Thebes. The day starts in the Valley of the Kings, where three royal tombs open their doors to reveal jewel-bright paintings and passages of the sacred texts that guided pharaohs into the afterlife.

From there you make for the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, three tiers of colonnaded terraces set into the base of a soaring cliff, honouring one of Egypt’s most remarkable female rulers.

A final stop brings you face-to-face with the Colossi of Memnon, the pair of weather-worn giants that once flanked the entrance to a lost mortuary temple. After lunch, you are transferred to Luxor Airport or your hotel for onward travel.

4 Nights from Luxor to Aswan

Day 1: Arrival in Luxor – East Bank Exploration

Your representative meets you at Luxor Airport or the train station and drives you by private, air-conditioned vehicle straight to the Renaissance.

Once checked in, you head straight into a guided visit of the Karnak Temple Complex — the largest religious site ever raised by human hands, added to by pharaoh after pharaoh over more than two thousand years.

From there, the tour continues to Luxor Temple, a New Kingdom jewel that was once linked to Karnak by the ceremonial Avenue of Sphinxes.

Lunch is taken at a local restaurant during the day before returning to the ship for dinner and an overnight stay moored in Luxor.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: West Bank of Luxor – Sailing Toward Edfu

After breakfast, cross the Nile to the West Bank of Luxor to explore the Valley of the Kings, where more than 60 royal tombs preserve some of the most vividly painted scenes of the ancient Egyptian journey to the afterlife.

You then travel to the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, its ranks of columns rising in three great terraces against a wall of golden cliff — a fitting tribute to Egypt’s most powerful female pharaoh.

A brief stop follows at the Colossi of Memnon, the two seated giants that once stood watch over the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III.

After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the vessel as it casts off and begins its slow journey south toward Edfu. Tonight you sleep on the water as the Nile slips by outside.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Edfu and Kom Ombo Temples

The Renaissance arrives at Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage clatters through town to deliver you to the Temple of Horus.

This astonishingly complete Ptolemaic sanctuary is dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus and is widely considered the best-preserved temple in Egypt.

Back on board, the ship continues north to Kom Ombo, home to an unusual double temple honouring both Sobek, the crocodile god of the Nile, and Haroeris, an aspect of Horus.

Its perfectly symmetrical layout and its perch on a bend in the river make it one of the most distinctive stops on any Nile itinerary. Lunch is served on board as sailing continues toward Aswan.

Overnight moored at Aswan.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Aswan Highlights and Nile Sailing

Begin the day at the High Aswan Dam, the mid-20th-century project that transformed Egyptian agriculture and gave rise to Lake Nasser, one of the largest man-made reservoirs on earth.

Next stop is the Unfinished Obelisk, a colossal shaft of pink granite still tethered to the bedrock of its quarry — a fascinating look at how the ancients coaxed monuments out of raw stone.

A short motorboat ride then whisks you to Philae Island for a guided tour of the Temple of Isis, a Ptolemaic sanctuary that was rescued piece by piece and rebuilt on higher ground after the Aswan Dam was built.

Lunch is served at a local restaurant, followed by an unhurried felucca sail around Elephantine Island — the quietest, prettiest way to see Aswan’s granite outcrops, sandy shores and everyday river life.

Return to the Renaissance for your final night on board.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Departure from Aswan

Enjoy a final breakfast on board before checking out of the cruise. A private, air-conditioned vehicle is on hand to transfer you to Aswan Airport or the train station in good time for your onward journey.

FAQ

How Much Does a Cruise on the Nile Cost?

Nile cruise pricing shifts with the length of the sailing, the standard of the ship and what is bundled into the fare. As a broad guide, expect to pay between $600 and $900 per person for a 3-4 night voyage on a mid-range to luxury vessel. Longer itineraries or top-tier boats with extra facilities push the figure higher.

What is the Best Month for a Nile River Cruise?

The most comfortable window for a Nile cruise runs from October to April, when daytime temperatures stay pleasant for sightseeing and evenings turn cool on deck. It is best to avoid the peak summer stretch from May to September, when the mercury can climb to punishing levels.

Is the River Nile Cruise Worth It?

Absolutely — a Nile cruise remains one of the most rewarding ways to see Egypt. You wake up already at the next monument, the sailing hours between temples are pure scenic downtime, and life on board delivers real comfort along with warm Egyptian hospitality and a genuine sense of place.

Can You Swim in the Nile River?

Swimming directly in the Nile is not advised. Water quality, unpredictable currents and the presence of aquatic wildlife make it unsafe, and cruise operators do not permit guests to enter the river from the ship.

What is the Dress Code on Nile Cruises?

Daytime dress on board is relaxed — light, breathable fabrics in natural fibres work best. Evenings on deck lean toward smart casual, especially at dinner or during onboard entertainment. When visiting temples, tombs and other religious or historical sites, please cover shoulders and knees out of respect for local custom.
